Euphorbia milii, widely known as the Crown of Thorns or Christ Plant, is a resilient succulent shrub native to Madagascar. It belongs to the diverse Euphorbia family and is highly favored for its exceptional drought tolerance, striking architectural texture, and ability to bloom almost continuously throughout the year when given enough light.

  • To get a steady supply of blooms, place your Crown of Thorns in the absolute sunniest spot available. Indoors, an unfiltered south- or west-facing window is ideal. While the plant can survive in partial shade, its stem growth will stretch, become leggy, and it will stop producing its colorful bracts.
  • The Soak-and-Dry Method: Drench the soil thoroughly until water drains out of the bottom holes, then empty the drainage saucer immediately. Do not water again until the top half of the potting soil feels bone-dry.
  • Winter Rest: Reduce watering to a bare minimum during the winter months when the plant's growth naturally slows down.
  • Standard potting soils retain far too much moisture for this plant's root system. Always use a highly porous, gritty cactus or succulent potting mix. If planting in a container, select unglazed terracotta or clay pots, as their porous walls help dissipate excess moisture from the root zone much faster than plastic or ceramic options.
